Alameda Health System (AHS), located in Oakland California, is an integrated public health care system of five hospitals and four wellness centers dedicated to serving the East Bay’s health care needs. AHS’s vision is to be recognized as a world-class patient and family centered system of care that promotes wellness, eliminates disparities and optimizes the health of their diverse communities. AHS enlisted the help of W&E Baum in designing, fabricating and installing a donor wall to recognize the voluntary gifts from foundation grants, corporations, community organizations, and individuals.

W&E Baum’s installers flew to Oakland to execute the donor wall’s complex installation. The impressive free-standing wall displays names of donors printed on replaceable frosted acrylic with tempered glass front panels. The panels float 1” from the wall. The large center, clear acrylic and tempered glass panel has graphics printed on the acrylic. A glass plaque with printed text and color is mounted to the center panel. The 5 panels are set into laminated wood bases with satin aluminum accent bars. AHS’s mission- “Caring, Healing, Teaching, Serving All” is displayed as individual blue painted aluminum letters that anchor the donor wall. The end result is a modern and sophisticated recognition design that fits into the aesthetics of Alameda’s building and the surrounding area. 

Complementary room naming plaques were mounted throughout the entire hospital to complete the recognition project. The ADA complaint room plaques have a curved top mimicking the donor wall’s curve. The frosted acrylic plaques with aluminum backers are accented with blue waves that display AHSF’s logo. The room signs serve a dual-purpose for the hospital. The plaques act as wayfinding signage throughout the entire building while also allowing AHSF to further recognize individual donors whose generous contributions allotted for building expansion and state-of-the-art equipment. W&E Baum’s collaboration with Alameda Health System Foundation is a wonderful example of the full range of services Baum provides for organizations across the country and aboard.
